Leaders
Boal Shill, Susan
Teaching English and reading in the Susquehanna Township School District, Susan Boal Shill is a high school English teacher and reading specialist as well as a member of the district’s diversity and achievement gap task force. Ms. Shill brings her Philadelphia Writing Project and teaching experiences to the Capital Area Writing Project as a teacher consultant and advisor. She has been responsible for providing in-service training in the teaching of writing and reading.
Clark, Shanetia
Shanetia P. Clark, Ph.D., serves as the Site Director of the Capital Area Writing Project. In addition to her duties as Site Director, Dr. Clark is an Assistant Professor of Education, who teaches secondary (English) education, adolescent literature and developmental reading, teaching writing, and curriculum development/instructional design courses. She also supervises student teachers throughout the Harrisburg City and surrounding districts. Prior to her tenure at Penn State Harrisburg, Dr. Clark taught seventh and eighth grade English in Henrico County (Richmond), Virginia. She completed the Invitational Summer Writing Institute in 2002 at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.
Donaldson, Patricia
Having taught English and language arts to middle school and high school students in the Derry Township School District for 31 years, Patricia Donaldson presently serves as Co-Director for CAWP. Since becoming a fellow in 1984, she has facilitated the Invitational Summer Writing Institute, served on the leadership team, and designed and presented numerous teacher in-service programs. As part of her responsibilities, she assists CAWP’s Site Director and acts as a teacher consultant.
Edwards, Harvey
Harvey Edwards, frequently recognized for his teaching and advising skills, instructs ninth through twelfth graders in English language and literature studies at Selinsgrove Area High School. His experiences in the classroom range from working with two-year-olds in a Montessori school to instructing both undergraduate and graduate students at the university level. Presently, Mr. Edwards is co-instructor for CAWP’s Summer Writing Institute, mentors student teachers, and offers in-service programs.
Hamera, Robert
Currently teaching sixth graders in the Upper Dauphin Area School District, Robert Hamera has been an active CAWP Fellow for several years. He holds both a Reading Specialist Certificate and a PSU Writing Specialist Certificate and has taught fifth grade as well as remedial math and reading. Bob is CAWP Co-Director for Continuity, develops our Young Writers Academy programs, and presents as well as coaches for the Invitational Summer Institute. He has also made presentations for NCTE Conferences and the Children’s Literature Conference.
Hunter, Linda
Linda Hunter is an instructor in Developmental Reading at Harrisburg Area Community College. She has taught writing and reading courses at Penn State Harrisburg and Elizabethtown College, language arts at Carlisle Middle School, and first grade in Susquehanna Township School District. As a teacher consultant and fellow, she has created and provided in-service training in literacy coaching and teaching reading and writing for CAWP. A published author, she is an active participant in CAWP’s Teachers As Writers Group.
Monn, Erin

Napoli, Mary
Mary Napoli completed her doctoral work at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Language and Literacy with a minor in Women's Studies. Her dissertation work entitled, "If only I was like Mary-Kate and Ashly: Constructing girlhood through representation and consumption" considered young girls' responses to the popular cultural artifacts that maps their cultural universe. Prior to joining the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, Mary worked at Elizabethtown College and also has elementary school experience. Mary taught kindergarten and first grade within the Pocono Mountain School District.

Mary currently serves on the review board for the Keystone State Reading Association journal, Pennsylvania Reads and is a member on the 2003 Lee Bennett Hopkins award committee through the Pennsylvania Center for the Book http://www.pabook.libraries.psu.edu/.

Rose, Alli
Alli Rose is our Professional Development Coordinator. She works directly with local school districts to design, develop and implement effective, quality professional development programs with a focus on writing for teachers across content areas and levels. Alli currently teaches language arts to eighth graders at Eagle View Middle School. Additionally, Alli serves as CAWP’s monitor for this project’s lesson plans submitted to the PA Standards-Based Lesson Plans Website.
Van Zile, Susan
Susan Van Zile has taught for more than 20 years in public and private schools in the Mid-Atlantic Region. She currently teaches sixth grade language arts at Eagle View Middle School in Mechanicsburg. Chosen as the Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year in 1998, Susan often helps connect teacher education at the college and graduate levels to the realities of the classroom. She has published several Awesome Hands-on Activities books geared for teachers of fourth through eighth graders through Scholastic, Inc., and she has assisted CAWP as both a teacher-consultant and an instructor.
