- Writer’s Autobiography.Compose
a writer’s autobiography which narrates the history
of your experiences with writing both in and out of academic
settings. You may include the best/worst assignments,
your first remembered piece, descriptions of pieces
which have a particular place in your heart. Use
issues about writing that are compelling to you. 4-6 pages.
- Three-piece Suit . Create
three separate pieces of writing on a single topic of
your choice. Pick an event, a location, an object,
a person in your life, an abstraction, something
that arouses your curiosity. Three pieces, three
different genres of 3-6 pages each.
- Classroom Inquiry Paper. Explore
ideas for research topics in your classroom or school;
choose an area which is applicable and interesting to
your life as a teacher. Write a short history
of current practices and studies with annotated
bibliography. 2-3 pages. Abstract for Proposed
Classroom Inquiry. Based on your research paper,
write a short descrip-tion of an inquiry you
may conduct in your classroom next fall. 1 page.
- Journals. Individual
journals are used for responses to assigned readings
and demonstrations, personal reflections, recording
questions and answers. Writer’s choice
of journal.
- Précis. A
concise handout of your demonstration as you
would prepare it for in-service use is due the
day after you present. 1-2 pages.
- Mini-Book Review. Choose
a book for independent reading which suits your academic
or intellectual interests; write a brief synopsis of
it as well as a personal response. 1-2 pages.
- Scribe Notes. Each
day someone will keep a log of the events to
be read the following morning. 1 page.
- Anthology. An
anthology of our writing will be created after
SI is complete; submit a piece of your favorite
work written during the Institute to the instructors
on July 7. Writer’s choice.
